As your sustainability partner, Chem-Aqua’s products, equipment, and services help reduce your water and energy footprints as well as your total costs of operation. As the population grows and demands for water increases, it is important to responsibly manage and use our water resources wisely.

Effective Water Treatment Program
An effective water treatment program that maximizes the life, efficiency, and reliability of boiler and cooling water systems is integral to the operation of energy and resource efficient facilities. The excess energy costs and greenhouse emissions associated with scale deposits and biofilm on heat transfer surfaces can be significant. Operating water systems to use less water while balancing the negative impacts of deposits and corrosion to heat transfer and equipment life is critical.

Impacts of Scale Deposits
As shown in Table 1, even minor waterside deposits in building heating and cooling systems can have significant impacts upon energy use, costs, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The carbon dioxide produced when fossil fuels are burned to generate energy is a major source of GHG emissions. Consequently, reducing energy use can reduce a building’s carbon footprint.

Through our Resourcefully Green® sustainability initiative, there are multiple strategies to reduce water and energy usage in cooling and boiler water systems. These include:

  • Maintaining clean heat transfer surfaces
  • Increasing cycles of concentration to minimize blowdown
  • Automated control systems
  • Use of web-enabled, data-logging controllers to monitor and log key treatment and system parameters
  • Alternative water sources
  • Eliminating leaks and uncontrolled water losses
